Artist's Comments

Just kidding, this isn't actually the Carboniferous. I know you probably believed me, but there are angiosperms in this shot. Plus it is severely lacking in Protodonata. :D

This is a rainforest in the dead of winter in New Zealand, just outside the town of Te Anau. There are more shades of green in that country than can ever possibly be explained or photographed.

I'm not sure if I like this photo yet, but I'm wide awake at 5am and I've been staring at it for a while... so opinions are welcome.

Hmmm, maybe it's time to check my monitor's colors again. It was a lot darker, but I lightened it fairly significantly. I took it in really low light without a tripod, so it's never going to be great... Although the Exif data show it at 400 ISO. Huh.

beth's asleep in my room, so i'm on my mom's computer atm and i don't know how the monitor is in here. everything else on the site looks normalish, though.

's not bad that it's dark, incidentally :)

LOL one time I uploaded a photo that I'd edited on my parents' computer and =voyager01 said it looked like a scene from a horror movie. Not what I was going for!

PS I'm so insulted you're not waking Beth up to go check and see if it's my monitor or your mother's that's the problem!!! =p

I noticed the contrast was very high on your mom's monitor when we watched that video thingie, but I wasn't sure if I was just standing at an awkward angle or something. My parents' monitor is like that, only their colors also completely messed up. I had to tell my mom not to touch any of the photos she imports to Picasa because they end up so wonky. My dad won't let me fix it though.

But I digress. Thank you for checking. :D

how come i haven't seen this before, this is absolutely gourgous.
A common mistake in areas like this is to overexpose the image, bottom canopies of rain forests are dark places because of the overhead foliage thus the need for the ferns to have very large leafs! It does not look dark to me at all, just right.

I have no idea, maybe you're a slacker. :D And thank you!
